Receh.in - PT HM Sampoerna Tbk. (Sampoerna) has officially inaugurated its smoke-free innovative tobacco product production and export facility in Karawang, West Java, on Thursday (1/12). This production facility is part of Sampoerna's investment and creation of economic value in Indonesia.
The facility has been operational since the fourth quarter of 2022 and was built since the end of 2021. The investment in this facility is worth more than US$ 186 million, exceeding the previously announced commitment.
The HEETS factory in Indonesia is focused on meeting export market demand in the Asia Pacific region as well as the domestic market and is in line with the government's priority to encourage investment and increase exports of finished goods. The HEETS factory in Indonesia is the first PMI production facility for smoke-free innovative tobacco products in Southeast Asia and the seventh in the world.
"I congratulate all the management and employees of Sampoerna on the inauguration of the smoke-free innovative tobacco product production and export facility," said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in his speech on Thursday (1/12/2023).
He explained that the investment made by Sampoerna is expected to have a positive impact in promoting innovation, as well as creating economic value in many sectors such as MSMEs, traditional retail, partnerships with farmers, and research and development (R&D) development.
The inauguration ceremony was also witnessed by Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Laksana Tri Handoko, Head of the National Standardization Agency (BSN) Kukuh S. Achmad, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Susiwijono Moegiarso, and Director General of Agro Industry of the Ministry of Industry Putu Juli Ardika.
"We highly appreciate the investment from our friends at Sampoerna to Indonesia. Especially, not just an investment, but also bringing its new innovations. This is certainly one of the innovative alternative products," said Laksana Tri Handoko in his speech.
This investment is a tangible form of support from Sampoerna to the government's efforts to strengthen national economic resilience in the face of challenging global economic conditions.
In addition, the high-tech production facility built in Karawang also aims to support the transformation of the manufacturing sector as outlined in the roadmap for 'Making Indonesia 4.0' which has been launched by the government.
Meanwhile, the President Director of Sampoerna, Vassilis Gkatzelis, also expressed his appreciation to the Government of Indonesia for the conducive investment climate and commitment to maintaining national economic stability.
"As a company that has been operating in Indonesia for almost 110 years, we hope that this investment can contribute to the development of the Indonesian economy and society," he said.
